How Aqvify monitors your septic tank tank
Step 1: The level sensor in your septic tank
A fully sealed, waterproof pressure/level sensor sits at the bottom of the septic tank. It measures the liquid level every minute. Designed to operate in the conditions inside a septic tank, it requires no maintenance. No modification to the tank needed.
Step 2: Connected to the Aqvify Box
The sensor connects via cable to the Aqvify Box, mounted near an electrical outlet, but it can also be powered by a 12V battery or a Solar Power Panel. The Box transmits a reading every minute via WiFi or, for locations without broadband, via the optional mobile upgrade. This includes a built-in eSIM and mobile data with the first year covered. Step 3: Your septic tank in the app
The Aqvify app shows current fill level, percentage, and fill history in real time. Share access with a property manager, maintenance contractor, or co-owner. For example, set a buffer level alert at 60 percent, and a high-level alert at 85 percent to get push notifications with enough lead time to schedule an emptying before the tank is full. Multiple alerts can also be set for early warnings.

A septic tank overflow is one of the most preventable property emergencies there is. Continuous level monitoring means you always know how full the tank is, so you act on a schedule based on fact, not assumption.

A single household septic tank is typically emptied on a fixed annual or several times a year. But usage varies. Extended guests, or a larger household can fill a septic tank far ahead of schedule. Septic tank level monitoring: what you need to know
A water level monitor for your waste water or effluent tank removes the guesswork from one of the most important and most overlooked maintenance decisions a property owner makes: when to empty the tank. Most overflow incidents happen not because owners are careless, but because they have no reliable way to know how full the tank is between scheduled empties.
Why does a septic tank fill faster than expected?
Septic tanks fill faster than scheduled emptying anticipates for several common reasons. Household size increases temporarily or permanently. A toilet or appliance with a slow leak can add tens of litres per day without anyone noticing. Aqvify detects all of these through the fill rate data. A sudden increase in the rate at which the tank is filling is visible immediately in the app, whether caused by a leaking appliance, a blocked outlet, or a busy rental period.
What is the right alert level for a septic tank?
There is no single correct answer. It depends on your tank size, usage, and how quickly you can arrange an emptying. A common starting point is a high-level alert at 80 to 85 percent capacity, giving enough lead time to schedule emptying at normal rates. Set a second alert at 90 to 95 percent as an urgent warning. Adjust both thresholds based on how fast your tank fills and how much notice your contractor needs.
Is septic tank monitoring safe?
Yes. A passive pressure sensor measuring liquid level does not interact with the waste in any way. It does not add chemicals, disturb the bacterial activity that processes waste, or affect the drainage field. It is simply a measurement device. Many jurisdictions actively encourage owners to monitor septic systems as part of responsible maintenance.
How do I install a level sensor in a septic tank?
The sensor is lowered through the inspection hatch to the bottom of the tank. The cable runs to the Aqvify Box, which is mounted in a dry, accessible location nearby. The Box connects to a standard 230V power supply or can run on 12Vdc, for example with the Solar Power Pack. The process takes most users under an hour. Professional installation is available through the Aqvify installer network.
