How Aqvify monitors your rainwater tank
Step 1: The pressure sensor in your rainwater tank
A waterproof level or pressure sensor sits at the bottom of your rainwater tank, whether above ground or underground. It measures the water column every minute, calculating level, volume, inflow during rainfall, and usage rate. This maintenance-free sensor is compatible with cylindrical, horizontal, and rectangular tanks.
Step 2: Connected to the Aqvify Box
The sensor cable connects to the Aqvify Box, mounted nearby an electrical outlet, though it can also be powered by a 12V battery or our Solar Power Panel. The Box sends a reading every minute via WiFi. No WiFi at the tank location? The optional mobile upgrade includes a built-in eSIM with mobile data. Ideal for garden buildings, outbuildings, and remote sites without broadband.
Step 3: Your rainwater tank in the app
The Aqvify app shows current level, volume, fill percentage, and usage history in real time. See exactly how much water you harvested after a rainfall event. Set a buffer level alert (e.g. at 60%) to know when to switch to the backup supply, and a high-level alert (e.g. at 85%) before the tank overflows in heavy rain.
The sensor measures the water column and calculates level, volume, fill rate, and usage, all visualised in the Aqvify app. For rainwater tanks, collection tanks, and harvesting systems.

Monitor your rainwater tank
Rainwater harvesting is only as efficient as your ability to manage what you collect. Aqvify gives you real-time visibility into your tank so you use every litre you harvest and waste none of it.
Garden irrigation and outdoor use
Knowing the current level and usage rate transforms how you manage watering. You can see exactly how many days of supply remain at the current rate, decide whether conditions allow for full irrigation or conservation, and plan ahead for dry forecasts. A high-level alert before a heavy downpour gives you time to run sprinklers or fill secondary storage proactively rather than losing water over the top.
Homes using rainwater for internal systems
Properties where rainwater feeds toilet flushing, washing machines, or other internal systems need reliable level visibility. Running out is an immediate inconvenience. Aqvify’s low-level alert gives you time to switch to a backup supply before the tank empties, rather than discovering the problem when the flush fails.
Farms and agricultural use
On farms and smallholdings, rainwater tanks serve livestock watering, spray equipment, and wash-down. Each draws at a different rate. Aqvify tracks consumption in real time, compares inflow against usage, and flags unusual patterns, giving farm managers oversight across multiple tanks from a single app.
Off-grid and remote properties
For properties where collected rainwater is the primary supply, running the tank dry has serious consequences. Aqvify provides continuous early warning with days of lead time. You can reduce consumption, investigate inflow performance, or arrange water delivery before the situation becomes critical. The Solar Power Pack means Aqvify works entirely off-grid with no mains electricity required at the tank location.
For communities
“On top of tank levels at all times”
“Aqvify has been a game-changer for managing our water supply in an association with over 120 properties. Easy to use, keeping us on top of both well and tank levels. We can follow trends and get instant alerts, ensuring we are always in control.“
Steinar Thon, Granens samfÀllighetsförening
“I highly recommend Aqvify”
“I found the product when looking for a water monitoring device. I installed it myself and it is very easy. After several weeks of use I am very satisfied. I highly recommend Aqvify to anyone who wants to know the online status of their water supply.”
Isidre Elias Elies, Barcelona
For rainwater harvesting
“The best thing I ever did”
“The best thing I ever did! Been worried for 60 years since the well was drilled. Do we have water or not right now? Now there is no more nagging about water. I can easily see on the app how my water situation is. Thank you so much for this invention.”

Rainwater tank monitoring: everything you need to know
A rainwater tank level monitor lets you manage your harvested water supply actively rather than reactively. It tells you not just how much is in the tank right now, but how fast it is filling during rain, how fast you are drawing it down, and whether there are any unexpected patterns in your usage.
How do you measure rainwater in a tank?
The most accurate method is a submersible pressure sensor at the bottom of the tank. It measures the weight of the water column above it, a reading that changes in direct proportion to the water level. The Aqvify sensor transmits this reading every minute, and the app converts it to a level in metres, a volume in litres, and a fill percentage based on the tank dimensions you entered during setup.
How do you prevent a rainwater tank from overflowing?
The most effective prevention is a high-level alert set at 90 to 95 percent of tank capacity. When Aqvify notifies you that the tank is approaching full and a rainfall event is forecast, you can use water proactively. Run irrigation, fill secondary storage, or open an overflow bypass before the tank reaches capacity. Without monitoring, overflow is often silent and the water is simply lost.
Can I see how much rain I collected?
Yes. The Aqvify app records the inflow rate every minute. After a rainfall event, you can see exactly how fast the tank filled and the total volume harvested during that event. The historical data lets you compare rainfall events over weeks and months, useful for sizing future storage and planning irrigation schedules.
Does the sensor work in an underground rainwater tank?
Yes. The sensor cable runs from the bottom of the tank up through the access hatch. The Aqvify Box is mounted above ground in a dry, accessible location and transmits data from there. An external antenna is available for locations with weak mobile signal.
