How Aqvify monitors your drainage well
Step 1: The pressure sensor in your drainage well
A waterproof pressure sensor sits at the bottom of the drainage well or sump pit. It measures the water level every minute with high precision. Designed to operate in wet and humid environments, no maintenance is required once installed.
Step 2: Connected to the Aqvify Box
The sensor connects via cable to the Aqvify Box, which is mounted next to an electrical outlet, but can also be supplied 12V by a 12V battery or our Solar Power Panel. The Box transmits a reading every minute via WiFi. No WiFi at the tank? The optional mobile upgrade adds built-in eSIM and mobile data connectivity, so it works in remote locations with no broadband too. Contact our team for help choosing the right setup.
Step 3: Your drainage well in the app
The Aqvify app shows current level, rate of rise, and the full level history. Configure multiple alert thresholds: a caution level and a critical level. Share access with a building manager, maintenance team, or emergency contact. Each contact can be assigned to a different threshold so the right people are alerted at the right stage.

Monitor your drainage well
A drainage well that fills without warning is not just a nuisance. It is a structural risk. Continuous level monitoring means you have the data to act before the level becomes critical, not after the damage is done.
Residential properties with cellars or basements
Any property with a cellar below the local water table or in a low-lying area depends on a drainage well and pump to stay dry. When the pump degrades or inflow surges, the level rises and the first visible sign is often water on the cellar floor. Aqvify detects the rising level minutes or hours before it reaches the critical threshold, giving you time to call a maintenance contractor, deploy a backup pump, or reduce any contributing inflow. The consequences of missing this are vastly more expensive: structural damage, mould, ruined storage, and insurance claims.

Drainage well monitoring: everything you need to know
A drainage well level monitor provides the early warning that the pump alone cannot give you. The pump keeps the water level down, but it cannot tell you when it is struggling, when inflow has increased beyond its capacity, or when the level is rising faster than normal. Only a continuous sensor gives you that picture.
Why do drainage wells flood without warning?
Most drainage well flooding happens because degradation is gradual and invisible. A pump that used to cycle every 20 minutes now cycles every 8. It is working much harder to maintain the same level, wearing faster, and only barely keeping up. Without measuring the level continuously, this change is completely undetectable until the pump fails altogether. Other common failure patterns include a float switch that sticks, an inflow rate that surges during heavy rainfall beyond the pump capacity, and power failures that stop the pump entirely.
What alert thresholds should I use for a drainage well?
A three-level approach works well for most drainage wells. A caution alert at 60 to 70 percent of capacity flags early that the pump is working harder than normal. A warning alert at 80 percent indicates that maintenance or backup pump deployment should be arranged promptly. A critical alert at 90 percent means immediate action is required. You can assign different contacts to each threshold in the Aqvify app: the caution alert goes to the property owner, the warning alert also goes to the maintenance contractor, and the critical alert goes to both plus an emergency contact.
Can Aqvify control the drainage well pump?
Aqvify monitors the water level continuously, and pump performance is visible through the level data. For direct pump control, turning the pump on or off remotely, or setting automatic triggers based on level thresholds. The Aqvify Remote Control accessory handles all of this. It connects to the same Aqvify Box and is managed through the same app.
Does the sensor work in a concrete-ring drainage well?
Yes. The Aqvify sensor works in any enclosed vessel. For drainage wells housed in concrete rings or pump chambers where mobile signal may be partially obstructed, an external antenna is available for the Aqvify Box to improve mobile network connectivity. This extends the antenna above the concrete structure for reliable transmission. Note that the external antenna applies to mobile connectivity only, not WiFi.
